My story is too dark.?

I'm writing a sci-fi/ thriller story where the main character is depressed. This makes the voice very cynical and the mood very dark. Even though I meant it to be that way, the story is depressing for me to write, and writing isn't really fun anymore. Can anybody think of a way that I can lighten the mood of the story without ruining the suspense or getting too out of character?
