Were controlled explosives used in order to bring down the trade towers?

Not just WTC 1 and 2, but also bldg 7. Also, yes I know 2 planes hit WTC 1 and 2, but what brought the buildings down into their own footprints? (Putting this query in a different location in hope for more responses)
